IVF is a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) in which sperm and eggs are fertilized outside the human body. IVF is a complex process and involves retrieving eggs from the ovaries and manually combining them with sperm in the laboratory for fertilization.

A few days after fertilization, the fertilized egg (now called an embryo) is placed inside the uterus.
