Heart Pacemaker Surgery above of the Page

Open heart surgery is a type of surgery in which the chest is split open. In this procedure, surgery is performed on the muscles, valves, or arteries of the heart. According to the National Heart Institute, coronary artery bypass grafting is the most common type of heart surgery in adults. During surgery, a healthy artery or vein is connected to a blocked coronary artery. The transplanted vein allows blood to flow through the blocked vein and fresh blood reaches the heart. Open heart surgery is sometimes called traditional surgery. Today, with the advancement of science and technology, many operations related to the heart can be performed with a small incision. Therefore, the word open heart operation is a misleading word.

When is open heart surgery needed?

This surgery is needed when the coronary artery transplant is necessary for the patient. Cardiovascular diseases occur when the vessels that carry blood and oxygen to the heart muscle become blocked. This disease is called blood clots.
Arterial occlusion occurs when fatty substances form plaques on the walls of the heart's arteries.
These plaques block the vessels and prevent blood from passing through. In this case, because the blood does not flow well to the heart, a heart attack may occur.

What is heart surgery for?

•    Repair or replacement of heart valves for better blood flow through the heart
•    Surgery for damaged or abnormal parts of the heart (congenital defects)
•    Medical implants that help the heart beat
•    Heart transplant
